🚨 Waymo is bringing driverless rides to Germany in 2027.

Alphabet's robotaxi unit said Tuesday it will launch in Munich, its third market outside the U.S. and its first inside the European Union.

CNBC reports that phased testing starts in Munich over the next few weeks. That work covers building high-definition street maps, training autonomous specialists and adapting the software to the city's distinct driving conditions.

📈 Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana called Munich "a world-class hub for mobility and engineering" and described the move as a milestone in the company's global expansion.

The international map is filling in fast. London first. Then Tokyo. Now Munich.

At home, Waymo already operates in 11 U.S. cities and is working to expand into 19 more, according to its website. Last month it named San Diego, Las Vegas, Tampa and Denver as new targets.

The scale behind it: as of March, Waymo had tracked nearly 221 million fully autonomous miles.

Waymo is the dominant robotaxi player in the U.S., but CNBC notes the industry is still in its early days. Europe is a different problem entirely, with different roads, different rules and different drivers.

Would you get into a car in Munich with nobody in the driver's seat?
