UPS IS SPENDING $2 BILLION TO REWIRE ITS GLOBAL NETWORK
The spending began in 2024 and was never disclosed as a total until now. It is aimed at healthcare, international and supply chain work — the parts of shipping with the fattest margins.

🚨 UPS is spending more than $2 billion — and it just told CNBC the total for the first time.
The money goes into three places: international, healthcare, and supply chain solutions. Per CNBC's exclusive, the spending began in 2024 and runs through 2028, and UPS had never disclosed the full number until now.
What it buys: a new hub in the Philippines this year. A new Canadian facility in Ontario next year. A new air hub at Hong Kong International Airport in 2028.
Already live: a tech-enabled logistics center in Taiwan, where UPS says automation and robotics have cut a full day out of total supply chain speed. Plus a supply chain facility in Amsterdam combining freight, brokerage and cold-chain work.
The flight map is moving too. UPS says it now runs five flights a week between Paris and Hong Kong, and five a week between Shenzhen and Sydney.
📈 Then there's the drug money. UPS recently announced a separate $48 million into 27 temperature-controlled facilities, built partly to move temperature-sensitive medications like GLP-1 drugs. Cold chain is where logistics companies are racing hardest right now.
Scott Szwast, UPS vice president of international strategy, told CNBC that customers' supply chains "look more like their histories than their strategies" and that companies no longer want all their operational eggs in one basket.
Translation: tariffs and disruption moved the map, and UPS is buying concrete where the freight is going.
Does $2 billion over five years sound big to you, or small for a company this size?
