UBER CUTS 10% OF ITS WORKFORCE
Uber had around 34,000 employees at the end of 2025 and declined to say how many jobs go. Khosrowshahi did not blame AI — he says the company outgrew its own management layers.

🚨 Uber is cutting 10% of its workforce.
CNBC reports the ride-hailing company announced the cuts Wednesday, framing them as a move to consolidate management layers and trim costs.
CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told employees the changes are designed to "make Uber simpler and faster, and create more capacity to invest in our future."
The structure is where it gets specific. Small teams made up of just one to two reports are being cut by nearly half. Employees sitting seven steps away from the CEO are being trimmed by 20%. Khosrowshahi said Uber has outgrown many of those structures at its current size.
More teams are being combined, and more staff concentrated in hubs like New York and San Francisco. About 1% of the workforce will be allowed to keep working remotely.
📈 Investors liked it. Shares rose about 2% in premarket trading.
Uber declined to comment on the number of jobs cut. The company had around 34,000 employees at the end of 2025, according to an annual filing.
One notable absence: Khosrowshahi did not attribute the cuts to artificial intelligence, which has driven a recent wave of tech layoffs. His pitch is organizational. "A leaner organization will mean clearer ownership, faster decisions, and more time spent building rather than coordinating," he said.
Would you take a 10% cut at your company if it meant faster decisions?
