TIM CURRY DEAD AT 80
'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' cost $1.2 million and flopped on release. Midnight screenings turned it into a cult machine that has pulled in hundreds of millions across its various incarnations.

🔴 Tim Curry has died at 80. The film that made him was made for $1.2 million and flopped.
The Hollywood Reporter says Curry died Tuesday night at his home in Los Angeles, citing TMZ. He suffered a major stroke in 2012 and kept it private for nearly a year.
He originated Dr. Frank-N-Furter on stage at a tiny upstairs venue at London's Royal Court Theatre, then rode the show to Broadway and into the 1975 Fox film with Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick.
That film underwhelmed on release. Midnight screenings rescued it. Audiences showed up in costume, threw props, sang along. It played in theaters for years and, per THR, brought in hundreds of millions of dollars across its various incarnations.
Curry then spent decades refusing to be one thing. Rooster Hannigan in 'Annie'. Wadsworth in 'Clue'. Cardinal Richelieu in 'The Three Musketeers'. Long John Silver in 'Muppet Treasure Island'.
‼️ His Pennywise in the 1990 ABC adaptation of Stephen King's 'It' pulled more than 37 million households.
Three best actor Tony nominations: Mozart in 'Amadeus', Alan Swann in 'My Favorite Year', King Arthur in 'Spamalot'. A Daytime Emmy in 1990 for voicing Captain Hook. A Grammy nomination in 2006.
On typecasting he was blunt: the bad guys are always much better written than the good guys.
