MUSK PUTS $100B AND 10,000 JOBS INTO A LOUISIANA MARSH
SpaceX says it spent about 7 years hunting for a site with launch pad room and enough fuel access. Starship, and the nearly $2 trillion valuation riding on it, needs somewhere to fly thousands of times a year.

🚨 $100 billion. That is what SpaceX says it will spend on a new launch complex in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana.
CNBC reports the site, called Starbase, Louisiana, was announced jointly with the Louisiana Economic Development office and is designed to "support thousands of launches annually."
Elon Musk said in a video posted to SpaceX's website that the project would bring "probably 10,000 really exciting jobs" to the state. The company said the hunt for a site with room for launch pads and access to ample fuel took about 7 years. Louisiana is SpaceX's fourth launch site.
📈 SpaceX shares rose about 2.5% on Tuesday after the announcement.
The money angle sits in one rocket. Starbase, LA is meant to be the primary launch facility for Starship, the largest rocket ever built or flown and designed to be fully reusable. Musk's plans to expand Starlink, put data centers in orbit and eventually reach Mars all run through it, and per CNBC, so does the justification for SpaceX's nearly $2 trillion market cap.
🔴 The environmental record follows the company south. SpaceX said it will work on a "historic coastal restoration" with the state to "bring the marsh back." In Texas, the first Starbase in Boca Chica drew lawsuits, fines and community backlash. The April 2023 Starship test blew apart its own concrete launchpad, and a fire burned around 4 acres of Boca Chica State Park land. In 2024, a state agency issued a notice of violation saying the site had repeatedly released pollutants near bodies of water.
Would you want a spaceport built next to your town for 10,000 jobs?
