A 27-MINUTE GAME TRAILER BEAT EVERYTHING ON NETFLIX
Netflix ran the extended look six hours before Rockstar's own YouTube channel got it. The YouTube version sits at 17 million views.

🔴 31.1 million views. For a trailer.
TheWrap reports that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, a 27-minute preview for the game, drew 31.1 million views on Netflix from its Aug. 27 debut through Aug. 31 — more than any other TV show or movie on the service during the week of Aug. 24.
It hit No. 1 in 87 of the 93 countries Netflix tracks globally.
The rollout was staged. Netflix put the extended look up at 3 p.m. ET on Aug. 27. Rockstar Games only dropped it on its own official YouTube channel at 9 p.m. ET the same day. That YouTube version currently sits at 17 million views, though as TheWrap notes, the two counts are not measured the same way — Netflix requires more viewing time before something registers as a view.
For scale on what it beat: Tyler Perry's "Beauty in Black" logged its best debut week ever, 13 million views for Season 3, and still finished behind a video game promo.
The game is slated to debut in November.
That is the money line here. A publisher's marketing asset out-drew every piece of scripted content on the biggest streamer in the world, in a week where one of Netflix's most reliable hitmakers had a record launch.
Would you sit down and watch 27 minutes of a game trailer on Netflix?
