$280 BILLION IS RIDING ON ONE NVIDIA EARNINGS CALL

The 5.4% implied move is smaller than the 6.5% priced before May and well under Nvidia's 7.4% average swing over the last 12 quarters. Traders are betting on fewer surprises.

🚨 $280 billion of market value is riding on one Nvidia earnings call.

Reuters, carried by AOL.com, reports options traders are pricing a 5.4% move in either direction the day after Nvidia posts second-quarter results. On a company this size, that implied swing works out to about $280 billion, more than the individual market value of roughly 90% of S&P 500 constituents.

But here is the twist. The bet is getting smaller. Options implied a 6.5% move before May's report. Nvidia's actual average post-earnings swing over the last 12 quarters is 7.4%, according to analytics firm ORATS.

📉 "That shows some complacency for Nvidia, and it means it's getting more predictable," ORATS founder Matt Amberson told Reuters.

Susquehanna's Chris Murphy said the era of 10, 15 and 20 percent post-earnings moves is over: there is no widespread view Nvidia catches everyone off guard with a giant beat.

The setup is messy. Nvidia fell for a seventh straight session on Monday, though it is up 11.7% this year, roughly in line with the S&P 500's 11.8% and far behind the Philadelphia semiconductor index at 61%. Treasury 30-year yields hit a 19-year high last week and still hover above 5%, which has pressured growth and tech names.

What investors want from the call: revenue guidance, chip demand, margins, and whether cloud providers keep raising AI capital spending. Nvidia recently teamed with six major financial institutions on financing platforms targeting more than $500 billion for AI infrastructure.

Does Nvidia move more or less than 5.4% this week?
