OUTLOOK AND CHATGPT WORK GO DOWN THE SAME AFTERNOON

No sign the two failures are connected. But they hit the same desks: OpenAI's enterprise agent and Microsoft's corporate email went dark on the same Monday.

🔴 Close to 4,600 Outlook outage reports. Over 1,100 on OpenAI products. Same Monday afternoon.

CNBC reports that OpenAI and Microsoft both flagged outages on key products, with no reports that the two were connected.

OpenAI said ChatGPT Work, its enterprise AI agent, had been running elevated errors and latency for roughly three hours. "Users across multiple subscription plans may be unable to start or continue tasks in ChatGPT Work," the company said on its status page.

Microsoft said users may experience degraded functionality with various Exchange Online functions, and that it was reviewing service telemetry and diagnostic data to isolate the source.

As of 2:24 p.m. ET, Downdetector had over 1,100 reports on OpenAI's products. Outlook was close to 4,600 shortly after. Both peaked a little earlier in the day.

The money angle: ChatGPT Work launched in July as a paid enterprise agent for building slides, web apps, sheets and documents, competing directly with Anthropic's Claude Cowork. Exchange Online is the plumbing under corporate email. Both are subscription products companies pay for on the promise they stay up.

Microsoft invested its first $1 billion in OpenAI in 2019, three years before ChatGPT launched. That later grew to $13 billion. The two are now competing on multiple fronts.
