NORWAY'S BIGGEST-EVER GOVERNMENT CYBERATTACK FOLLOWS A $9.2B UKRAINE PLEDGE

🚨 85 billion Norwegian crowns. About $9.2 billion. That is what Norway pledged to Ukraine from next year's state budget.

Days later, its digital government went under attack.

Fortune reports that Norway's Digitalization Agency, Digdir, has been dealing with a cyberattack running since Monday. Spokesperson Are Kvistad called it the biggest attack against Digdir solutions the agency has ever experienced.

The method was denial-of-service. Hackers pushed enormous volumes of traffic at the agency to choke its systems, including the service that lets citizens use one login across multiple public services. Kvistad said the agency still managed to keep things running practically all the time.

On Wednesday, pro-Russian group Server Killers claimed responsibility in a Telegram post widely reported by Norwegian media, saying it had declared cyber war on Norway after the country renewed its security cooperation with Ukraine on Aug. 23.

The money behind that renewal is not small. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store announced during a visit to Kyiv that Norway would provide the funding for a third year in a row. The two countries also committed to further cooperation on drone technology and other modern warfare.

Norwegian officials had not commented on the hackers' claim by publication time.

🔴 It is not the first time. Norwegian authorities said in 2025 that Russian hackers were likely behind suspected sabotage at a dam, where a valve was opened remotely to increase water flow. Danish authorities blamed Russia for attacks on infrastructure and websites in 2024 and 2025.
