The fight is over nondisclosure agreements. Black's lawyers say the NDAs have no connection to Epstein and that handing them over would expose women who bargained for confidentiality and refused to waive it.

🚨 Over $180 million, paid to Jeffrey Epstein across six years. That figure, cited by a member of Congress, now sits at the center of a lawsuit.

CNBC reports that former Apollo Global Management CEO Leon Black sued the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Thursday, seeking to block two subpoenas issued to him for nondisclosure agreements tied to the panel's investigation of his ties to Epstein.

Black was scheduled to appear before the committee Thursday morning. According to his lawyers, he is refusing.

The filing, in U.S. District Court in Washington, claims the subpoenas are "invalid to the extent they exceed OGR's delegated authority in seeking private information that bears no legitimate connection to OGR's legislative purpose."

It also argues the subpoenas would expose women who value their privacy, who have no known or public connection to Epstein, who bargained for confidentiality and have refused to release it.

📉 Attorney Susan Estrich: "The Committee is on a fishing expedition that oversteps its authority. This is no longer about finding the truth about Epstein. It is about trying to destroy Mr. Black."

Rep. Robert Garcia of California, the panel's ranking Democrat, said Black is now defying two congressional subpoenas and stated Black gave Epstein over $180 million over six years. Garcia said multiple women have also accused Black of sexual assault and called for an immediate contempt vote.

Black previously appeared before the committee in person behind closed doors in June and refused to answer its questions.

Should private NDAs be fair game for a congressional subpoena?
