It is the second hit this year. A July outage closed restaurants and bars and left passengers queuing for toilets at the West Sussex airport.

🔴 Gatwick's toilets are shut in the North Terminal after a water main burst in a field in Horley.

BBC Business reports SES Water located the burst and that supply to parts of the airport has been cut.

The airport confirmed the issue is affecting water supply in both terminals and is under investigation by SES Water. Flights are not affected.

North Terminal toilets are closed. Most South Terminal toilets are unaffected.

Food outlets in the North Terminal remain open, but for passenger seating only. That is the money line. An airport terminal without running water cannot serve, and catering and retail are where airports make margin off a captive audience.

It has happened before. A major supply outage in July left passengers queuing for toilets at the West Sussex airport, with restaurants and bars closing.

Anthony Rochester, head of networks at SES Water, said the burst main was "temporarily affecting supply including Gatwick Airport", with teams on site to repair it "as quickly and safely as possible". He apologised for the disruption and said updates would continue.

Two outages in one year at one of the busiest airports in the country. The infrastructure question writes itself.

Would you still buy food at a terminal with no running water?
