🚨 $9.4 million pulled out of Amazon's vendor payment system in six months. The sentence: 16 years and 3 months.

Gadget Review reports that a federal judge sentenced Atlanta's Brittany Hudson over a scheme the Justice Department says ran on fake vendor profiles and more than 1,000 fictitious invoices.

The mechanics were dull. The spending was not.

According to the DOJ, the proceeds bought a 2019 Lamborghini Urus and a nearly $1 million home in Smyrna, Georgia.

Prosecutors had asked for 21 years. Part of the reason: while out on bond, Hudson and co-defendant Wortham allegedly submitted counterfeit court documents bearing a fabricated judicial signature, meant to convince a franchising company the charges against them had been dismissed.

🔴 The money side is the part that outlives the sentence. Hudson was ordered to pay $9,469,731.45 in restitution to Amazon, plus a separate forfeiture money judgment of $7,859,135.54. The Smyrna house and seized bank funds are subject to forfeiture. Wortham was sentenced separately to 16 years in a related proceeding.

The wider point for anyone running accounts payable: vendor systems are built to move money fast, and speed is exactly what gets exploited. Fake profiles and invented invoices only work where nobody verifies the vendor exists.
