One of the two women was an Amazon operations manager in Smyrna, Georgia, with authority to approve new vendors and pay their invoices. That signature was the whole scheme.

🚨 $9.4 million in fake Amazon invoices. The garage it bought: a Lamborghini Urus, a Porsche Panamera, a Tesla Model X, a Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat and a Kawasaki ZX-6R.

Road & Track reports that Brittany Hudson, 40, of Atlanta was sentenced Wednesday to 16 years and three months in federal prison without parole for her role in the scheme. Kayricka Wortham, 35, was sentenced to 17 years.

The mechanism was internal access. Hudson owned a business contracted to deliver Amazon packages. Wortham was an operations manager at an Amazon warehouse in Smyrna, Georgia, with authority to approve new vendors and pay their invoices.

Prosecutors say that between January and June 2022 the pair created dozens of fake vendors in Amazon's system and ran more than 1,000 bogus invoices through it, billing for products and services never provided. Roughly $9.4 million moved into accounts connected to them and others.

🔴 Being charged in September 2022 did not end it. Out on bond, prosecutors say the two tried to convince a prospective business partner in January 2023 that the case had gone away, backing it with fabricated court documents carrying a forged federal judge's signature. Altered bank statements allegedly made their balances look healthier than they were.

A jury convicted Hudson of 30 felony counts in March, including wire fraud, money laundering, conspiracy and forging a federal judge's signature. Wortham's 2023 sentence of 16 years grew to 17 with a consecutive year for the forgery.

Both were ordered to repay Amazon the full $9.4 million.

Who should be on the hook here, the two employees or the company that let one manager approve her own vendors?
