🚨 Nearly $10 million walked out of Amazon on fake invoices. Two women just got 16 years.

GuruFocus reports that on August 31, 2026, Brittany Hudson and Kelly Wotherspoon were sentenced in Atlanta to 16 years in federal prison for defrauding Amazon.com Inc.

The method was not sophisticated. It was volume. According to the report, the pair submitted more than 1,000 fraudulent invoices into Amazon's supplier payment process and kept getting paid.

The Justice Department described their conduct as a blatant disregard for the law, and said Hudson attempted further fraud while out on bail.

The court ordered nearly $9.5 million in restitution to Amazon. It also ordered the seizure of luxury assets, including high-end vehicles and a luxury home.

📉 For scale: Amazon carries a market capitalization of roughly $2.82 trillion. Retail-related activity generates about 74% of its revenue, with AWS at 17% and advertising at 9%.

So the money itself barely registers. The vendor payment system that approved four figures worth of invoices without catching them is the part every large company with a supplier network should be reading twice.

Who should have caught 1,000 fake invoices before the total hit $10 million?
