$1.3M ROMANCE FRAUD CASE: MAN ACCUSED OF POSING AS A 49ER
Prosecutors say the alleged partner, an 18-year-old, played the financial adviser in the pitch, giving the fake fortune a second voice victims could message.

🚨 $1.3 million from 26 women, and prosecutors say it started with a fake 49ers player on a dating app.
ESPN reports that federal authorities arrested Daejon Love, 35, and Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, at the Boise airport on Aug. 24. Both are charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud.
According to the U.S. Attorney's office in the District of Oregon, the scheme began in February 2022 and ran more than four years across California, Idaho, Washington and Oregon.
Prosecutors allege Love met women on dating apps using fictitious personas, presenting himself as a member of the San Francisco 49ers or a wealthy real estate investor. Pseudonyms cited in the filing include Jon Love, Avril Lyto Love and Jordan Love.
🔴 The pitch had a second character. Prosecutors say Chan posed as Love's investment adviser, and the two exchanged messages about investment opportunities that Love screenshotted and forwarded to the women.
The statement says Love told victims he had grown a fortune worth tens of millions and wanted to build a future with them. He allegedly used apps to generate fake bank and investment account balances to legitimize it.
Some victims loaned him money directly. If they had none, prosecutors say he asked them to take out personal loans, promising repayment.
‼️ None of the victims interviewed received any money back, according to the U.S. Attorney's office. Communications were cut off once they ran out of cash or started asking questions.
Financial records show about $1.3 million from the 26 victims the FBI identified. The FBI believes there are many more.
A criminal complaint is an accusation, not evidence of guilt.
Should dating apps be required to verify claims like a pro sports career?
